I'm a pathologist (thoracic pathology), skeptic and opponent of groupthink
Fungal hyphae are more tricky to diagnose by pathology alone than yeasts

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis:
1. Yet another misnomer in #pulmpath
2. PEComatous proliferations in walls of lung cysts
3. ALWAYS consider in women with bilateral lung cysts, recurrent pneumothoraces, tuberous sclerosis or renal angiomyolipoma
4. VERY IMPORTANT for boards

Learn to differentiate fibroblast foci (this image) from fibroblast plugs (Masson bodies), or you will never learn to diagnose UIP and forever be "correlating" with CT findings. Don't misdiagnose UIP as organizing pneumonia!

PGY1s, you will learn about special stains that help to pick out microorganisms (AFB, GMS, PAS). But remember that many bugs are also visible on routine stains such as H&E and pap (used in cytology, shown here). Arrow: Histoplasma yeasts (dots) within a large histiocyte #pathsky

PGY1s: the "cribriform" growth pattern occurs in many cancers including adenoid cystic carcinoma and prostate cancer. It results when many small glands are packed together back to back into a sieve-like collection of lumens. From Latin (cribrum = sieve) #pathology #pulmpath #pathsky

I ...

✳️ lay eggs on perianal skin that stick to "Scotch tape"
✳️ lay eggs that are slightly flat on one side and survive for 2-3 weeks on bedsheets
✳️ cause the most common worm infection in the USA
✳️ cause intense perianal itching at night

...who am I?

How pathologists tell benign from malignant has always fascinated me. Is the lesion in these images (lets's assume it's a biopsy of a lung mass) benign or malignant? Please explain your thought process so others can learn.
