Foreman Spike being in The Super Mario Bros. Movie was one of the first things we learned about the movie, thanks to Sebastian Maniscalco mentioning he'd be voicing the character in an interview a month before he was officially confirmed by Nintendo, and it was the first indication of just how deep Illumination would go in terms of references to the games.
