The condition that prompts the diagnosis exists prior to the diagnosis. This is true of every single diagnosis; medical and psychiatric. I don't know what else to tell you.

Autistic me is often told I ‘overreact’ to ‘small’ things, but often such things are not small to us. For example, sensory overload can be very distressing, and it can be so unsettling when a beloved food/product is out of stock if it brings much-needed familiarity and comfort.

This Autism Acceptance month I’d like to see everyone accept that being Autistic is a naturally occurring neurotype that struggles in today’s society due to societal structure and not inherent disability. Plenty of risks for co-occurring disabilities tho! AND we don’t need a cure, just compassion. 🫶🏻
