Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

Behold, the latest response from my email scammer when I asked them to provide some very basic information that a real service could and would have provided, i.e., a website or social media platform for herself and the client she allegedly had that so loved what she did. (1/)

The amount of crap I have to go through to turn AI off, in all my apps, is truly mind blowing. All I wanted was 1 single word in another language. Not ten screens of "search assist" or a dozen ads. Who in their right mind thinks this is Progress!?!

This honks me sideways!

I pay property tax that funds public education. But… I don’t have kids. Do I scream at every kid “I pay for your education, worship me!” No, that’d be bizarre. But ableds have no issue getting into disabled people’s faces and claiming superiority.
“I pay for your disability benefits”

Well by that logic I pay for my own benefits. Because we all pay tax.

We all pay tax which, in my view, is very well spent supporting the most vulnerable in society.

100%
No offense but I think we underestimate how many of our current problems, both cultural and political, are downstream of the decline in reading, the decline in learning and the loss of interest in the humanities.

Ah, another pointless thinkpiece by an aggrieved white guy who knows jack shit about the game he's criticizing, as evidenced by his description of a "thiefling" and a "horned demon."

Geek culture has always been diverse, despite the efforts of white male gatekeepers. Grow up, my dudes.

The whole AI thing has a very middle-of-the-night infomercial feel.
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

It’s just so deeply unfair that there are all these cool ass galaxies out there and we can’t go visit them!
A barred spiral galaxy, observed with the Apache Point 2.5m Telescope in the SDSS survey.

It is at redshift 0.039 (lookback time 549.7 million years) with coordinates (155.76054, 15.65037).

28 volunteers classified this galaxy in Galaxy Zoo 2.

SOME chose her. There’s a great many choosing to fight back. @reggieparos.bsky.social for one.
She doesn’t even try to hide that she’s a spokesperson for Putin serving in the US Congress. Post after post, day after day, echoing Russian propaganda. Truly sad that people in Pinellas County have chosen this as their representation.

For the Disability community, losing Alice Wong is like losing Ursula Le Guin or Octavia Butler. She was a powerhouse, a pioneer, and a mentor to many. She taught me so much. And always reminded me what we were fighting towards, as well as against. I miss her clarity, bravery, and joy.
Alice Wong
Alice Wong had an outsized impact on Disability justice. As a community organiser, activist, mentor, and co-conspirator, as writer, editor, and friend, she is irreplaceable.

Wow. Powerful. It makes me so sad this young lady even needs to be aware of things like this.
If a man said what Megyn Kelly said, you would assume he was a trafficker.

This young lady is wise beyond her years, but she is still a “child”and she would like a word…

Ew Ew Ew Ew Ew!!! And did I mention… EW!!

I was already boycotting Target for their DEI and LGBT bullshit but this… this is icing on the poop cake. The last thing I want is to be asked how I’m doing twenty times while I’m shopping.

Seriously, I will cut a bitch.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.
