Who would have guessed that the wooly socks I bought in tkmaxx in Edinburgh were modelled off St. Kildan feet?

@macronecteshalli.bsky.social and @thelabandfield.bsky.social you'll appreciate this one! In the bottom right corner you have the extinct white-speckled raven from the Faroes.

Can I share this curious bit of Faroese art factoid. The first Faroese artist Díðrikur á Skarvanesi died in obscurity, but his illustration of Faroese breeding birds (approx 1830s) is truly unique and (mayb biased) but I think this great skua is particularly beautiful 🌍🧪

Just back from a very interesting workshop on beachcleaning in the Nordics, trying to standardize litter recording #OSPAR #AMAP 🌍

This little beauty made it all the way to the Faroes just to die pointlessly in a window collision. Yellow browed warbler #ornithology #birdmigration 🌍🧪

Shame I'm not a meta user as this is the most meta (or ironic?) post in years. Feathered dinosaur standing on the head of a plastic depiction of a brachiosaurus. @edinburghzoo.bsky.social 🧪

Very interesting presentation by @bardseyben.bsky.social on lightpollution in the Faroes and some brand new and exciting GPS tracking data of stormpetrels at this year's researchers night #seabirds 🌍🧪

#SeabirdSeptember - thankful for another finished fieldseason and no #HPAI casualties among the great skuas on Skúgvoy #SkuaIsland #seabirds

I feel like sharing some virtual cake. The Faroes just rounded 15000 observations on iNaturalist. #citizenscience #nature #science 🥳🧪🌍

plants with tentacles are too creepy

Observed this beautiful oysterplant yesterday in connection to a beach cleanup. Much like Shetland it remains only in a handful of locations in the Faroe Islands - Mertensia maritima

One of my proudest #inaturalist observations this week - a beer drinking hooded crow #ornithology 🧪

Great skuas eat GBBG for breakfast. I have literally seen it happen.

But I think gulls (and GBBG) are much more agile flyers, but in a ground or ocean brawl, my money would definitely be on the great skua! See these talons!

Seriously, aren't these the coolest and dinosauriest birds you have ever seen!? #seabirds #teamskua 🌍🧪

A reminder that many North Atlantic seabird populations were decimated by the #HPAI (which is primarily a man-made issue), this great skua skull most likely is from the outbreak in 2022, when approximately 70% of the breeding birds died over a span of a few weeks. We have fortunately not seen any

Hey, thought I could share some images and thoughts from fieldwork on Skúgvoy, Faroe Islands. We are looking for breeding territories of great skua, some of which we caught last year and deployed loggers onto (under the @seatrackscience.bsky.social project) which we hope to retrap.

Bit late and kinda indirectly #seabirdersaturday but a little pat on our own back, as we have recently established three reference beaches in the Faroes to monitor for marine plastic. Let's hope we can keep it going for a few years or decades. #marineplastic 🧪🌍
