Obviously we all want to have strategic foresight, but how do we do that when the paradigm has changed so completely?
Identify potential disruptions, model impact scenarios, and develop contingency plans.
Only now, we have to expect everything. Easier said than done.

Leaders must be present, visible, and transparent in times of uncertainty.
Consistent updates, empathetic engagement, and decisive action build confidence and reinforce stability across teams and stakeholders.
Let people know you have skin in the game, too.

#Climate change is causing more floods, fires, and heat waves, forcing businesses and municipalities to spend more on emergency services, contingency plans, and infrastructure upgrades. With tight budgets and limited staff, many organizations struggle to prepare for these threats.

Canadian businesses and municipalities are under pressure from growing #risks while having limited resources to deal with them. Global conflicts and #trade issues are pushing up the cost of food and energy, for example, which makes it harder for both local governments and small businesses to plan.

Around the world, resources are being used as a tool in political conflicts, and international #sanctions are changing how countries #trade and cooperate. In response, Canadian political leaders are calling for policies that focus on #resilience, fairness, and building a more sustainable economy.

#Canada is exposed to a number of significant #risks. Rising prices for food and energy are being pushed higher by global conflicts and trade problems, while #climate change is bringing more extreme weather, like wildfires, that put pressure on communities and health systems.

Readers are leaders. The best #crisis leaders have context and awareness. They're able to draw on extensive knowledge so that they don't have to make up solutions. Instead, they borrow from a body of knowledge to recreate success. Sometimes #resilience looks like a full bookshelf.

There's a lot of #crisis frameworks out there and a lot of them are written by ex-uniform types who only live in operations mode (love you all, for real).

Business leaders need to be in the #resilience mindset. Accept that crises may happen and have plans to avoid them, not grind through them.

Just taking a moment to extol the virtues of the semi-colon; however, some may disagree, or dislike it; others may enjoy it, use it, and celebrate it; and, yet more may be indifferent.
But I love it.
Thank you, semi-colon. You’re not a half-measure to me.

The After-Action Review or Post-Incident Review is a necessity for mature organizations. After every challenge, pause. What worked? What failed? Be honest. Continuous reflection transforms crises into strategic learning opportunities.

Cash flow and reserves are lifelines.

Maintain accessible reserves and scenario-based budgeting to weather disruptions without panic. Your whole business can't be about crisis and resilience (unless you're like me!), but you're going to need a bit of padding.

Every disruption is data. Learn, iterate, and implement improvements. Post-incident reviews are not blame exercise: they're blueprints for a stronger, smarter organization.

Mature leaders and teams take the time to critique their performance so that everybody succeeds when it counts.
