An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Top of mind because I read it not that long ago: Miriam Toews’s Women Talking. Short, harrowing, and totally immersive.

It's funny when you feel as if you don't want anything more in your life except to sleep, or else to lie without moving. That’s when you can hear time sliding past you, like water running.

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

The Devil and John Berryman, they took a walk together
And they ended up on Washington, talking to the river
He said, "I surrounded myself with doctors and deep thinkers
But big heads and soft bodies make for lousy lovers"

The best museum that can buy money
The American Numismatic Society’s collections of coins will be relocating from Manhattan to the spacious campus of the Toledo Museum of Art. The $20 million plan, to be completed in 2028, would make possible its long-harbored vision of a state-of-the-art money museum.

Great thread on early camera movement:
Camera movement has existed longer than we might think, with pans becoming common in the 1900s.

Early filmmakers also simulated movement. This 1908 fairy tale THE GRATEFUL LITTLE MICE gives the illusion of a zoom by pulling the performers and prop book toward the camera. It's nearly seamless.
