The SPH will also enable the PLANMC to consolidate its maintenance requirements by reducing the number of artillery systems it uses from two to one.
December 14, 2025 at 2:58 AM
The landing site’s limited space means that the PLANMC cannot deploy multiple types of artillery to the locations without the risk of them being destroyed by enemy fire or delaying breakout operations.
December 14, 2025 at 2:58 AM
The PCL-181 SPH will significantly improve the PLANMC’s fire support capability while consolidating both its logistical and maintenance supply chains. Furthermore, the PCL-181 demonstrates the PLANMC’s ability to modernize its brigades to enable the units to be more combat effective.
December 14, 2025 at 2:58 AM
The PCL-181 has a range of between 17 miles and 45 miles (27 and 72 kilometers) depending on the type of round used. The SPH has a continuous rate of fire of 6–8 rounds per minute and uses both guided and unguided rounds.
December 14, 2025 at 2:58 AM
The battalion used the PCL-181 155mm Self-Propelled Howitzer (SPH) during the exercise. The PCL-181 indicates that the brigade completed the transition from the PL-66 152mm towed howitzers and PLZ-07B 122mm tracked SPH.

The units would need training to become proficient in how to conduct these tasks effectively. Additionally, the personnel must possess the knowledge necessary to resolve any malfunctions that may arise during operations.
December 8, 2025 at 6:53 AM
The drills allow the PLA to train its brigades in how to load and unload landing craft and to place armored vehicles in staging areas under combat conditions. The training is important because of the complexity associated with amphibious logistical operations.
December 8, 2025 at 6:53 AM
The exercise allows People’s Liberation Army Army (PLAA) units to train in logistical operations involving LSMs and other types of landing craft under realistic combat conditions.
December 8, 2025 at 6:53 AM
For instance, the drill simulated notional enemies firing at or approaching the unit’s staging area, which forced the units to accelerate loading and go to General Quarters as they departed the location.

In early November, the 74th Group Army’s 16th Heavy Combined Arms Brigade (HCAB) conducted a joint maritime transport exercise with the 311th Coastal Defense Brigade’s boat squadron at a training base in eastern Guangdong.

A Type 901/Fuyu class fast resupply ship, the Hulunhu, also departed the naval base on December 7th, which indicates that the Liaoning carrier group would conduct a long range mission.
December 7, 2025 at 9:27 PM
The PLAN would use the flotilla to gain further insight in conducting long-range voyages in the Western Pacific by utilizing coordinated training drills.
December 5, 2025 at 4:51 AM
Furthermore, the second cruise would demonstrate to Australia that China is capable of conducting similar naval voyages to the ones that the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) conducts near the country’s coast and the Taiwan Strait.
December 5, 2025 at 4:51 AM
China would likely send the flotilla to conduct a voyage similar to the one the PLAN completed in February and March 2025. The flotilla’s voyage in the Western Pacific allows the PLAN to continue to gain experience in conducting long-range naval cruises.
December 5, 2025 at 4:51 AM
A likely Z-18J Airborne Early Warning helicopter was also seen flying near the flotilla.

Additionally, the PLAN can leverage the KVD-002’s payload capacity and Type 076’s communications capabilities to act as nodes to enable the rapid sharing of information between landing and naval forces.
December 3, 2025 at 3:11 AM
The PLAN will leverage the KVD-002’s characteristics, such as its ability to operate for up to 50 hours and carry increased payloads, to support amphibious operations.
December 3, 2025 at 3:11 AM
The KVD-002 would enable the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) to effectively support amphibious landings using the ship once the drone and LHA become operational.
