This really is the perfect way to end my year of Weird RPG’s. I played Moon, Live a Live and OFF for the first time this year, and this feels like the culmination of everything I loved and hated (affectionately) about all those games

Yes, I remember writing down the mirror maze order and wondering how I was sposed to do it otherwise, and fighting a boss with an astronomy guide open cause it expected me to know what constellations meant, and then when I restarted and found that code I realised it was all deliberate

I spent ages trial-and-erroring some of the late fights, pushed through and got what I assumed was the bad ending, restarted from the beginning, looked at one of the consoles in the first room and found the solution to one of the only fights I gave up on

Honestly this game is art

What do you mean? Honestly I think it’s on the player to not feel personally insulted by games

Anecdotally, this is why I didn’t like the PS4 Spider-Man web swinging. I miss a swing and plummet to the ground, he does a cool landing pose. I faceplant into a building, he parkours up it

It doesn’t feel cool to be Spider-Man if I’m im not allowed to suck ass at being Spider-Man

He feels like a character from the early 2010’s who would be held up as an example of how modern games have too many tutorials and never shut up. He’d be hated then too ofc, but he’d be one of many

The most extreme example I can think of is Omni Man. I can talk about how interesting his redemption arc is without feeling the need to justify the millions of people he killed because those people aren’t real and everyone agrees that murder is bad

The only examples I could think of were Heavy Weather in Stone Ocean, Five-0 in the first season of Better Call Saul, The second-to-last episode of She-Ra season 1 and Time’s Arrow in Bojack Horseman

And like, they’re all bangers

Recent one was me saying despite my issues with Persona 4, the villain is great and the reveal is one of my fav reveals in a whodunnit mystery game

First response: “um you do know he’s an incel, right?”

Maybe it’s just a symptom of shorter seasons meaning ppl have less patience for episodes that aren’t actively advancing the plot?

Also if you’re a solo indie dev who spent years on your game, improved your art skills drastically and now feel like you need to update all your older sprites, Miyamoto says you don’t gotta

Yea, good point. The no-outline enemies look good against black backgrounds and the outlined ones work on the busier backgrounds

Would be a fun fan project to remake all the enemies in every style. Someone with more time than me should get on that
