It was lovely to meet @sianberry.bsky.social earlier this week - @greenparty.org.uk MP for my old stomping ground in Brighton. Energising to have such a knowledgeable and supportive ally in the campaign for better active travel infrastructure.

Had a great time yesterday at the @uk100.org reception with MPs @deirdrecostiganmp.bsky.social & @pollybillington.bsky.social and so many climate leaders from across local authorities. So much to do, but there is hope for active travel to play a BIG part in achieving climate outcomes.

They say “We can’t do that. We’re not Amsterdam.” You reply “Amsterdam wasn’t always like that either” and show before & after transformations illustrating how the cities we admire made CHOICES, and changed. They try new excuses. You don’t accept them either. (1e van der Helststraat, 1978 & 2005)

Off to old London town to attend the @uk100.org reception with @deirdrecostiganmp.bsky.social. Looking forward to meeting council leaders with ambitions to meet their climate responsibilities and to discuss how cycling and active travel can play a crucial part in making communities healthier.

Released today, our research found that 92% of young women want to ride a bike, but participation is 4 times lower than men of the same age.

Catcalls, aggression, male domination: Why women aren’t cycling
Women are avoiding riding bikes because Victoria’s transport networks are set up for the needs and safety perceptions of confident, physically fit men.

This is great news. Now we need to better understand how to reduce the barriers to cycling in the rest of the country - including rural areas. @freddievanmierlomp.bsky.social championed this theme in a Westminster Hall debate yesterday.
Great news: Cycling in London is gaining momentum.

Every day, 1.33 million journeys are made by bike in the capital—that’s an increase of 26% since 2019.

I’ll keep working hard with boroughs to make our streets even safer, encouraging more Londoners to travel on two wheels.

The Welsh budget was silent on money for cycling, but the total sustainable transport budget has been slashed by over £45 million.

We're concerned the government will backpedal on the support for cycling it promised. Act now!

Save the Welsh cycling budget
I'm worried that the Welsh government could slash funding for cycling - backpedalling on its promise to tackle the climate crisis and rejuvenate our high streets. But there’s still time to act. As...
