Whenever a politician says, "Common sense," they are virtually always actually saying, "This is a complicated issue or process, but I don't want you to think too much about it and instead choose this reactionary response to it."
Great job, MAHA.

The sooner moderates like Craig get it through their heads that Republicans like Emmer *do not care* about the consequences of their actions, the better off we'll all be.

No friendly lunch or stern talking to is going to sway them from gleefully celebrating the violence their politics encourage.

Watched the Titan documentary about Stockton Rush and his psychopathy is indistinguishable from the rest of the billionaires that have poisoned American society in the 21st century.

I control reality, rules are for the poor, let them sort out the externalities of my hubris.
Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
i don’t see how any of the benefits of chatgpt and other consumer-facing LLMs can possibly outweigh their incredible ability to induce suicides

Watched Die Hard tonight.

Struck by how William Atherton’s reporter is clearly depicted as an asshole. When Holly punches him, there’s laughter accompanying the punch.

One of the proof points the film uses to paint him this way? He threatens to call immigration on a Hispanic woman.

Nerd alert: There’s a set of Star Wars novels about a character named Darth Bane and I constantly think about how accurately it’s depiction of the Sith maps to the Republican Party.
From the White House to the conspiracy media-verse, MAGA simply cannot stop both constant covert sniping and the occasional outright brawl.

Trayon White also sees how RCV could kick his ass to the curb in the future.
NEWS: The D.C. Council has rejected a bill that would have delayed the rollout of ranked-choice voting next year, both for the June primary and November general. RCV is now a go.

Only votes for the bill came from Bonds, Felder, McDuffie, Mendelson, and Trayon White.

The establishment in DC has always benefits from challengers splitting opposition to them.

Of course, Bowser Jr.'s got concerns.
"It's important that any changes we make to our system of voting are done thoughtfully with the priority of increasing voter participation," says Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie. "I am concerned... [with] the preparedness of the [elections board]."

As futile as I know the exercise is, this is another one of those, "Any Democrat would be drawn and quartered by the media," if they ever suggested that American Football be renamed to accommodate soccer.
Trump: "When you look at football in the US, soccer -- we seem to never call it that, because we have a little bit of a conflict with another thing that's called football. But when you think about it, shouldn't it really be called football? We have to come up with another name for the NFL stuff."

One aspect of the Trump-era that is underdiscussed is just how much of it is powered by decades-long failure of institutions to call out scams and snuff them out. This allowed them to accrue vast sums of ill-gotten money which they then used to buy elections and turn our society into a grift machine

Because it just cosplays as a political film and completely amputates any original political connections that Pynchon made - One Battle After Another says nothing. It's a bad movie.

The movies you’re watching probably aren’t as politically motivated as you think.

Take One Battle After Another, for example. Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic depicts past and present revolutionaries fighting against a heavily militarized, white-supremacist regime that seemed to mirror the current U.S.
