My parents got me the Battletech "Twilight of the Clans" novilogy when I was in elementary school.
I write elaborately and my vocabulary is expansive. A lot of my literary expertise and narrative structure can be attributed to those novels, even if I wasn't 'mature' enough to fully appreciate 'em.

People who argue this point were raised to think they were stupid when they were kids. Children are people and deserve rich stories.
The movies that gripped me were ones that I saw as above my level, something I was fascinated by to watch again and again as I grew and discovered more depth.

People who argue "who cares it's just for kids" all I can say is fuck right off. Kids deserve thoughtful, well-made movies that challenge them just as much as adults do. Kids aren't stupid, and they remember how movies affect them basically forever.
