So they won't be accountable to the Supreme Court. Their official social media is openly mocking the concerns of American voters. This doesn't seem like the behaviour of a regime that is planning to hold free and fair elections.

Yep. My FIL drove into a tree, spent a month in ICU, 3 further months in hospital and was discharged to a nursing home. If they 25thed Gramps they could divert to nursing home but he’s already crashed the economy into a tree and there’s worse to come.
This is what happens when everyone knows gramps shouldn't be driving but no one wants to take away his keys.

Is it just me that worries about the fact that surely (esp in London & SE) we're soon going to see increasing numbers of older people who can no longer carry on working, but due to renting at market rates their whole lives won't have been able to save enough pension to afford *anywhere* to live?

1 month after the end of our equalities adjustment we’re overstaying. Bah! Alternator borked. Took a broken spare to the repairer (aka the alternator final boss), realised that the one on the engine is slightly longer, he’s now got both and I HOPE he remembers which one is correct. Because:

Interesting watching a tik-tok from a woman from Sierra Leone noting how the fascist dictator there removed education, healthy and social care and support as a prelude to ensuring people would go to war.

Yes it’s all cute and cozy living on a narrowboat with a little stove until one of those chilly spring mornings when the big lump of wood you selected won’t ‘catch’. I think I’m finally there now, I shoved some Hotmax under it. I can take my hat and gloves off now. #ukcanals

There’s a pub named The Winston in my hometown. It had a painting of Winston Churchill as the pub sign. For years my cousin convinced several of our friends that the painting was of her grandpa.
the week i moved to LA my (unhinged) roommate pointed at griffith observatory and said ‘that’s eddie murphy’s house’ and i believed it for seven years

When my dad (RIP) was in his most excellent nursing home it was my fantasy to be booked in there, in my burned out state, so I could sleep and live on mince, gravy and mash and jelly and ice cream for a few weeks.
Damn man somebody enroll me in daycare, I’m eating Sun Chips right now

Nice of my iPad Pro to develop a wonky charging port just as work gets mad busy. I can’t really spare the time to go to the Apple store or the wait to get the repair done there.

We need to remember what we’re capable of. Every day let your mind be blown by something you do, read, listen to, or create. That is one way we get through this—to remain open to everything that is wondrous in the world.

Please, please archive your work. Please. I’ve recently been saving lots of my essays as pdfs just so the Internet doesn’t suddenly delete them all (this happened to a whole load of blogs I wrote for The Independent years ago). I don’t want you to wake up and suddenly find your work gone like I did.

£20 for a single plastic Pantone chip, more expensive than a rock of crack. 😳 Nearly £9k for a full set. Who even buys and uses these? I remember having to hide my paper guide when working in factories or it’d vanish, forever.

This is like when a random handyman invites himself into the life of a lonely grandpa who has dementia, pretending to be his friend, then persuades him to change his will, takes over his bank accounts and robs him of everything.

My mother used to stand in front of the tv and curse Boris Johnson in just this way. We hear you, lady. We feel how you do.
She even cursed—and rightfully so—when that orange felon suggested slowing down COVID testing.

So many parallels to Brexit, I recall the weariness and frustration from my trade association, reporting in daily, no news, no plan, none of the info we were asking for, as the date approached and then passed.
Good morning. It is currently 10am EST. If you believe the President, ostensibly you now have to pay massive tariffs on roughly 43% of all goods brought into the United States. Yet there is STILL not any official documentation on any of this.
ostensibly you currently have to pay 25% to bring any goods into the US from Canada or Mexico, the highest tariffs in more than a generation. It is two hours past midnight EST and there is still no official documentation on any of this.

I’m a Brit who walks everywhere. I don’t drive, my ADHD is so bad AND my eyesight. When I worked for Skechers UK I hired a driver for trips to LA. I once almost got heatstroke trying to walk 3 miles back to the strip in Las Vegas. Unwalkable cities are an alien concept to me.
THE SUBSTANCE is a bold science fiction film that dares to imagine: what if LA were walkable

It’s mid storm here and we’re sat inside listening to random bangs and sloshing noises and wondering what the canal will gift us - flotsam and jetsom gets jammed between our boat and the bankside. Usually trash that had blown in, sometimes a stinky dead deer or carp.

I have a cassette tape recorded outdoors in our back yard when we were all under five, so early 1970’s. The birdsong is so loud it almost drowns our voices out. Now only one or two birds can be heard.
David Jobbins reflects on 45 years of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, revealing devastating declines in once-common garden birds. Here, he examines the possible causes of this collapse. ⤵️
