471. Tenet (2020), directed by Christopher Nolan, first time viewing

one of those movies where i vacillated wildly between "HOLY SHIT WHAT A DUMB MOVIE!!!" and "holy SHIT what a dumb movie" throughout

470. Ace in the Hole (1951), directed by Billy Wilder, rewatch

the only thing that has aged about this story is that it's about newspapers. now instead we have many more fun and exciting ways to distort the truth and profit from people's misery

469. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair (2006), directed by Quentin Tarantino, first time viewing

The Kill Bill movies are ones that I have not revisited in years so it was a lot of fun to see this in the intended format. 4.5 hours and every scene fuckin' HITS.

468. The Bikeriders (2023), directed by Jeff Nichols, first time viewing

I like this portrait of a motorcycle club that reflects the turbulent times of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The three leads are great, but Jodie Comer is especially good as a normal woman who gets attracted to this danger.

467. Headshot (2016), directed by Timo Tjahjanto and Kimo Stamboel, first time viewing

Good, hard-hitting action, but the plot gets in the way a bit too much for me.

466. Dolemite Is My Name (2019), directed by Craig Brewer, first time viewing

Biopics aren't typically for me, but Rudy Ray Moore is such an outrageous character that this feels more like Bowfinger than a typical biopic. Fun from start to finish, both Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes are great.

465. Emily the Criminal (2022), directed by John Patton Ford, first time viewing

Solid crime thriller starring Aubrey Plaza as a food service worker in debt who joins a credit card fraud ring. I like that the movie doesn't feel the need to make you root for her and shows her with no moral judgment.

464. Dog Man (2025), directed by Peter Hastings, first time viewing

Definitely regretting not seeing this in theaters earlier this year. Irreverent, strange, and deeply silly in such a fun and hilarious. Hits that sweet spot of feeling like it came from a kid's mind but with thought and care.

463. Lisa Frankenstein (2024), directed by Zelda Williams, first time viewing

Kept going back and forth on this, but once it commits fully to the nastier, more macabre side of the story (but still with a twinge of dark romance) in the final third I was move into it.

462. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (2024), directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham, first time viewing

Fun story, lots of cute gags and laugh out loud moments, basically everything you would expect from a Wallace & Gromit cartoon. I love how creepy the gnomes are lol

461. The French Dispatch of the Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun (2021), directed by Wes Anderson, first time viewing

I liked the story with the imprisoned artist a lot, liked the last one OK (Jeffrey Wright is good as the pseudo James Baldwin), and didn't really enjoy the others all that much

460. KPop Demon Hunters (2025), directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, first time viewing

now I'm prepared for if my 3-year-old cousin is still singing KPop Demon Hunters songs nonstop on Christmas Eve. if not, I at least watched a fun movie

459. Smile (2022), directed by Parker Finn, first time viewing

Strong start and Rose Bacon is good and sympathetic as the lead, but the more the movie delves into the mystery of the entity, the less interesting it gets, and the jump scares are pretty generic all around.

458. Give Me Pity! (2022), directed by Amanda Kramer, first time viewing

Thoroughly enjoyed this loving parody of a one-woman variety show starring Bette Midler's daughter, Sophie von Haselberg, as an entertainer baring her soul in an increasingly bizarre, surreal live television special

457. Green Book (2018), directed by Peter Farrelly, first time viewing

A touch more complex than I expected, but still very much in that safe, feel good Hollywood Best Picture biopic zone, even if it's a solidly done version of that.

456. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017), directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, first time viewing

well at least there was one movie in this series i enjoyed (not this one)

455. The Meg (2018), directed by Jon Turteltaub, first time viewing

fun turn off your brain giant shark movie

454. Babe: Pig in the City (1998), directed by George Miller, rewatch

ok it's actually extremely believable that george miller directed this movie

453. Rental Family (2025), directed by Hikari, first time viewing

If nearly anyone other than Brendan Fraser starred in this, it would probably be too saccharine and corny for me, but he's just so likable that I'm there for him helping people be less lonely and becoming less lonely himself

452. Nope (2022), directed by Jordan Peele, first time viewing

Slept on this for too long -- was SO into everything Nope did, from the amazing monster to the parallels with getting chewed up and spit out by the entertainment industry (and the incredible flashback related to that). Great movie!

451. American Fiction (2023), directed by Cord Jefferson, first time viewing

A little too much Subtext Is For Cowards, but easily forgiven because the movie is pretty damn funny and I enjoyed the layers of satirical bullshit to the story.

450. Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025), directed by Jalmari Helander, first time viewing

Ups the ante from the previous movie by being even more ridiculously, cartoonishly violent. There are some set pieces that had me CACKLING in the theater. This is one for fans of The Itchy & Scratchy Show.

449. The Last Showgirl (2024), directed by Gia Coppola, first time viewing

Pamela Anderson is really good in this -- the cast as a whole is good, actually, and I liked the faded nostalgic look of the movie, as well, very fitting for the subject matter.
November 25, 2025 at 5:33 PM
448. Good Boy (2025), directed by Ben Leonberg, first time viewing

Solid haunted house movie from the perspective of a dog. Does a good job of using framing, editing, and lighting to suggest the emotions it wants to evoke since the dog obviously isn't "acting."
November 24, 2025 at 2:29 PM
447. Resident Evil: Retribution (2012), directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, first time viewing

This one embraces the video game feel of the series the most successfully to this point and actually shows imagination with the scenario and the set pieces. I had a good time watching it!
