Sometimes a collaboration is a compromise, but it feels like I'm listening to all of Horse Lords and Arnold Dreyblatt on this album. They chase a shining shimmering forever existence and grab ahold of as much as could fit into a duration with limits, seeking the ecstatic in static and getting moved.

Sometimes a collaboration is a compromise, but it feels like I'm listening to all of Horse Lords and Arnold Dreyblatt on this album. They chase a shining shimmering forever existence and grab ahold of as much as could fit into a duration with limits, seeking the ecstatic in static and getting moved.

For our 2nd Pat Thomas appearance, we have the أحمد [Ahmed] quartet. They take the works of Ahmed Abdul-Malik and dig into the pieces, exploding the durations. Most recently, they've felt microscopically focused on making a whole life from a moment, but this seems to take a wider view. Very cool!

For our 2nd Pat Thomas appearance, we have the أحمد [Ahmed] quartet. They take the works of Ahmed Abdul-Malik and dig into the pieces, exploding the durations. Most recently, they've felt microscopically focused on making a whole life from a moment, but this seems to take a wider view. Very cool!

The first Pat Thomas appearance of today has his piano paired up with Mark Fell's computer music. There's a fantastic dynamic with their varied potentials for precision and timbre shifts, they oppose beautifully and end up able to pull something out of the other. It really pays off in the 2nd half!

SDEM comes into his music on a similar path as Autechre, but where they've gone on to employ nanomachine swarms that flood your mind, he keeps it humble & reaches in to do the rearranging by hand. This really fits with his subtler approach to melodies, there's more shadows for them to creep within.
