Yeah, most XC single track here in CA doesn't require rear suspension either, but it is getting chunkier every year, so I get it... but my XC bike is front suspension only

I mean, it's just an xc bike with skinnier tires and drop bars... If I'm riding XC, why wouldn't I want an XC bike, and if I'm riding gravel, why do I need suspension?
