I think having to explain the necessity of weeding in library collection development is a rite of passage for all librarians at some point in our careers. 📚📜
Wichita State University is dumping library books. Some faculty want to know why
University officials say the library has been weeding out materials that are outdated or have not been checked out in over a decade. But faculty say they should have been consulted first.

I literally dreamed about SQL syntax last night. On the plus side, I feel like I studied for my test in my sleep. On the bad side, I did wake up feeling more stressed and tired for this test today than I should've. #softwareengineering #student

I was very happy to inform a video game loving kid that there are not just Minecraft graphic novels, but also Animal Crossing manga. The look on his face was incredible. He practically skipped to the section where the book was.
Nothing makes a librarian happier than a child who is excited about books. Reading is magical.

During the formula shortage in 2022, my son needed speciality formula that was near impossible to find. Friends, family, and even strangers on Reddit were sending us canisters for free to help. Mr. Rogers was right - find the helpers. They'll be there, even now when it feels like it's hopeless.

It's been a rough couple weeks for me. Just hoping February brings some easier days.

Eraserhead was one of the most moving pieces of art I've ever seen, especially since my son was an infant the first time I saw it. Ironically, I just started watching Twin Peaks for the first time two days ago. I'll savor the show even more now in passing.

Had the pleasure of working in the 2nd oldest and one of the tiniest libraries in our state today! Normally only one person works there (so much responsibility!) and it's incredible the little community they've cultivated. It felt like being in someone's very loved home rather than a typical branch.

I think it's interesting that a common criticism of The Three Body Problem (the book) is that the characters are flat. To me, the characters are not the point. They're only there to convey scientific messages and plot. Just like plot is not the point in a serious literary character study.

Had a wonderful snow day with my son. It felt so serene and still outside. As we walked over the untouched, freshly fallen snow, I felt so privileged - lucky to get to be the first to walk among it, hand in hand with my little boy.

Games that let you pause AND save whenever you want are the true GOATS, especially for parents.
Games that let you pause during cutscenes are the real heroes 😔✊🏻

I had the sudden urge to reread this. First read it when I was a preteen. It certainly isn't the masterpiece I thought it was at that time, but it actually exceeded my low adult expectations, unlike most of the other books I loved during that era and have chosen to reread.

Yearly reading goals are set! I honestly hope I read a lot less this year so that I can distribute my time a little more evenly across my other hobbies.

I read 101 books this year! It was tough to narrow this down, but here's my top 4 of 2024!

I just looked up this book synopsis on Goodreads and oh my god, I need it in my life ASAP!!
Wife got me this for Christmas—it’s an examination of Jurassic Park as a feminist text by @hkpmcgregor.bsky.social—and now I badly want to figure out how to pitch a book for this series.

Lisa Jewell has done it again. Nothing gets me out of a reading slump quite like her books. I just can't get enough. They are full of tension, hard to put down, and keep me guessing on every page. Absolutely chefs kiss 🤌

What a wonderful Christmas. I feel so lucky to have such a lovely family. I know it was a good one, because I'm ending the day kind of sad, knowing moments like this in life can be fleeting, that my son will never be as small and precious as he is now. It just teaches you to appreciate everything ❤️

I'm not gonna lie, I really don't like opening presents. Much prefer to just receive a simple gift card. I take joy in giving gifts, though, and I'm so excited to finally have my family open my gifts to them (because another personal quirk of mine is that I'm terrible about keeping gift secrets).

📚 Library patrons! Please check out a book you plan to read someday, but not right now. We won’t be able to tell you haven’t read it, it’s good for our metrics, and it prevents good books from getting weeded when they still have a kindred spirit out there.

A U.S. Congresswoman disappeared for the last six months of her term. Nobody noticed.

Turns out she's in a memory care unit, & her staff (and apparently other people?) covered it up (though she was somehow propped up for an event a month ago?)

WILD story

Had to take a break from The Bell Jar because I started to feel the big ol' depression. Picked this up at the library, along with it's counterpart, Sybil Exposed.
I was born too late for the peak in interest of this story, but it's been an interesting read so far!
