I wonder if any of the traditional guardians of "British values" (govt, monarchy, CofE) will have anything to say this - whether they can say anything new at all.

Nor now is it "racist" to protest immigrants overwhelming and so destroying "British values". Britain, of course, was forever (and continues to be) the site of liberal exceptionality, perhaps moreso than the colonies. Perhaps clearest in the overwhelmingly religious framing of the conflict.

Could you recommend any books which trace the history of the category? I see what you’re saying, that it fails to accurately describe a state of affairs, but as name for anti-sociality I find it fascinating that it has exploded as a specter haunting contemporary social life

Why? A failure of political imagination or something else?
