The quoted official says that: "they migrate from the Dakotas to the Carolinas and Tennessee and up the Appalachian chain to the north-east." I can find no justification for this claim at all and it makes no geographical sense.

This graph is incredibly misleading, inflating the belief numbers with those who answered "neither agree nor disagree". What if those respondents just didn't want to answer? Or didn't know what the question referred to? Boo on UBC for promoting this.
