The main reason why the US economy overall is growing faster than the German economy is: US population growth. US population increased by more than 20% since 2000 - Germany's population hardly changed at all.

If you take living costs into account, Germany and the US have the same labor productivity - and this has hardly changed for 30 years. Meaning: A German worker who works 1400 hours a year can afford the same life as a US worker who works 1400 hours a year:
