I’ve seen plenty of people cling to non-chain restaurants for decades, long after the quality has fallen or better alternatives emerged. This is just the same phenomenon writ large because chains can give the same experience across different locations.

I’ve always kinda had the (probably slightly unfair) thought that the conservative blue collar workers who want the jobs in coal mining and such to come back to their small towns are the equivalent of the people who stayed home in Europe while others emigrated.

Midsomer Murders is like that as well. The detective just plods along “asking questions until they spill over and become answers” to quote Terry Pratchett. He has a family and they’re just happy, there’s mention of normal life stuff but nothing takes away from the murder plot.

Yup The “Intellectuals” of the conservative movement have always bloviated on talking heads shows, adding a veneer of legitimacy, frowning at the racism and bigotry, acting like it’s an unpleasant aberration. No true Scotsman and all that. But this has always been the real conservative ideal.

Have you considered that a careful reading of the Declaration of Independence actually reveals that the founding fathers wanted to be ruled by a distant mad king who imposed taxes and tariffs without representation? Because I think we should consider all the possibilities here.

I have plenty of memory on the tablet for all my data and I want it all to be saved there so I can read without an internet connection, but at every turn I have to ensure that a given document is saved to the device and hasn’t defaulted to only cloud storage.

Sure for that specific use case, but I’m thinking about the general consumer market for computers. For example I have a tablet and a frankly absurd number of ebooks and PDFs theoretically on said device, but I struggle with my device trying to push all my data into “the cloud.” 1/2

Kinda like how they unthinkingly design everything with the assumption of always on high speed internet access because that’s the only lived experience of the design team.
