Every Democrat who wants to be taken seriously at the national level should be doing this. Time to find out what future candidates are made of.

Attended the Union of Concerned Scientist's webinar about protecting scientists engaged in advocacy and I think the most important message was: The more people who do it, the safer we all are.

See the list of resources they shared below. Carry your weight and let others carry you!

My coping strategy is: I'll read this book (and the sequel)
Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

Listened to this one over the weekend, quite interesting! Perception vs cognition -- why some "top-down effects on perception" may have alternative explanations, and how causal-effect could be a quick perception. And silence perception (not the lack of auditory perception) is interesting as well.
New episode!! 📣📣

A conversation w/ @chazfirestone.bsky.social about perception and cognition.

There are good reasons to think that perceiving and thinking are separate activities of the mind. But where is the boundary between them? And can it be crossed?

One (positive) side effect of looking for a job is that I realize there are so many interesting careers out there. It reminded me that many years ago I had this naive idea, that if only learning to do all kinds of jobs in the world itself could be a job 😄

And I want to double down on my journalistic values: not only describing what is happening but helping people actually make sense of it; bearing witness to suffering; speaking truth to power; revealing wonder in the obscure; and pushing for a more just and equitable world. 6/
