What's Alan Watching?
Television reviews, recaps, and more from Rolling Stone chief TV critic Alan Sepinwall

1. Watch The Lowdown, one of the best shows I've seen in quite some time.
2. Read Kathryn on The Lowdown, one of the best TV columns I've read in quite some time.
3. Profit.
wrote an essay about the lowdown, and how it can be hard to think about drama at a time when there never seem to be consequences for bad guys, and how the lowdown offers us a way out

Drama in a Time of No Consequences
The Lowdown finds hope in a world where most crimes go unpunished.

This week’s The Chair Company was somehow even weirder than usual, delightfully. My review:
The Chair Company recap, Episode 5: 'I won. Zoom in.'
Things get REALLY weird — which, for this show, is saying something

There are stories about certain American shows (Turn-On, You're in the Picture) being canceled midway through ep1, but that just means the networks decided not to air ep2 while the first one was on the air. Never heard of this happening here.
I don't know, but I refer to the line that cancelled a TV show during its first episode quite a bit.
(It was "Get that sh*t off the air".)
The first* episode of 'Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos' was replaced half way through with a 'Cheers' repeat.

Happy Pluribus Premiere Weekend, everyone!
If you've already watched the first two Pluribus episodes, I had a lot of thoughts on all the things Vince Gilligan, Rhea Seehorn and company are doing so well right from the start:

The Netflix miniseries Death By Lightning turns a historical footnote — Charles Guiteau's assassination of President James Garfield — into a grand entertainment, with wonderful performances by Matthew Macfadyen, Michael Shannon, Betty Gilpin, and, especially, Nick Offerman. My review:
Review: Netflix's 'Death By Lightning' gives a historical footnote a jolt
Michael Shannon, Matthew Macfadyen, and Nick Offerman lead a rollicking retelling of the assassination of President James Garfield

I found Elordi so exasperating on Euphoria, though the great majority of that is how terribly that character is written. He’s incredible in Frankenstein.
With the possible exception of "Saltburn," which used him in a very particular way, I've never bought into the Jacob Elordi hype at all. I mean... He's tall and handsome. I get that. But... whatevs.

He's REMARKABLE in "Frankenstein." The physicality, especially in the first half, is astonishing.

Had a great time moderating the PaleyFest panel for Pluribus last night, with Vince Gilligan, Rhea Seehorn, and Karolina Wydra.

This was right before there was an audience question about Twilight Zone, which led to Vince Gilligan asking me to fact check him in real time.
#Pluribus Vince Gilligan on Carol being a romantasy author: “I liked the idea of a writer being tasked with saving the world, because there is no one less suited to saving the world.”

After a delay as our theaters were renovated, PaleyFest NY kicks off tonight with the show everyone is talking (and raving) about today: Pluribus. Tonight’s show is sold out but there are still tickets for some of the others www.paleycenter.org/events/paley...
