I'm struck by how conservative some of the purportedly liberal, campaigning barristers sound on this - especially in the context of decades of research raising serious questions about the soundness of juries.

Does a pub really need to offer a choice of five draft lagers, five ales, three draft crafts, a couple of ciders, and a stout?

I know a few local pubs who in the past 18 months have cut non-essentials (food has a high GP but its effect on the bottom line can me massively costly if food doesn’t drive footfall) and reduced their range to try to get prices down, and FWIW they seem to be the pubs that are doing better.

Perhaps because I’m a rural kid I think my unpopular political opinion is “food is too cheap”, but I probably should refine it to “all the wrong things are cheap and all the wrong things are expensive”. I would put most things from Poundland in the former category.
