Taking a proactive approach to emergency preparedness in our schools is essential ❤️

Recently, Portage HS became an ADAM Heart Safe School. I am proud of this achievement & their continued commitment to putting the health of students, staff & the community at the forefront.

Today in the Senate Appropriations Committee, we heard HB 1002, a bill focused on lowering utility costs.

I support any measure that provides real relief to Hoosiers. Utility bills are rising, and too many families are struggling to stay afloat.

Last night, all four caucuses performed at Hoosier Idol to support Mental Health America of Indiana.
February 11, 2026 at 8:02 PM
Yesterday, HB 1035, a bill I co-sponsored, passed on third reading out of the Senate.

This bill aims to protect the next generation of Hoosiers and let kids be kids.

Yesterday, I had the profound honor of remembering Former Senator Richard Young.

I am proud to co-sponsor HB 1248. This bill modernizes DNA collection, preservation and maintenance.

Effective tools for law enforcement to investigate and solve crimes builds community trust and keep our streets safe.

I was honored to join the Michigan City Black History Committee for the amazing brunch event.

Special shoutout to Mayor Deshawn Williams of Urbana, IL, a proud MC alum for his inspiring keynote speech.

Check out some of the amazing events planned for the rest of this month. #INForAll

We are back for Week 6 of Pol's Polls
This week, we are discussing HB 1333, authored by Rep. Culp & sponsored by Sen. Koch, which removes local control in deciding whether to approve or deny large-scale industrial projects such as data centers.
February 9, 2026 at 10:06 PM
It was great to catch up with the members of IBEW Local 531. We discussed the Bears stadium bill, how real these conversations are becoming & our ongoing work to include Project Labor Agreements to ensure fair wages, strong labor standards & opportunities for local contractors.

Our district relies heavily on the sacrifice of volunteer firefights. They risk their own lives to protect our communities.
February 6, 2026 at 6:44 PM
This week, I offered a resolution recognizing the Rising Stars in our district from Portage, Chesterton & Westville, as selected by the IN Association of School Principals.

These students exemplify service, academic excellence & leadership.

Thank you for making SD 4 proud.

This week on Pol's Polls, we are discussing HB 1343, authored by Rep. Bartels & sponsored by Sen. Baldwin, which creates a military police force in the Indiana National Guard. This bill would give these guardsmen arrest & search & seizure powers at the order of the Governor.

On Friday, I had the privilege of visiting Portage High School to speak with an incredible group of students about what is happening this session in your Indiana Legislature.
February 3, 2026 at 8:58 PM
As we head into the midpoint of session, I’m proud to share that several of the bills I co-authored and supported are officially moving over to the Indiana House for further consideration.

I had the chance to co-author a resolution honoring Bobby Weir of the Grateful Dead, one of the most influential American bands ever.

The Dead even helped spark a friendship between Sen. Brett Clark & me.

I'm grateful to Sen. Clark for leading this effort. #INForAll

I was happy to vote yes on SB 85, which eliminates medical debt from following Hoosiers in every aspect of their life. Hoosiers are working hard to put food on the table & keep the lights on. This bill keeps Hoosiers afloat in the affordability crisis. Hoosier Health First!

We are back for Pol's Polls 🎙

We are discussing SB 285, by Sen. Carrasco, which would ban homelessness, which could result in up to a Class C misdemeanor. The bill would also include a cause of action if their local law enforcement is not complying with the new law.

Two exciting updates🎉

My Senate Bill 148, which expands the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force to Porter and LaPorte counties, passed the Senate unanimously. This will provide law enforcement with additional tools to promote public safety in our communities.

I had the honor of welcoming Rev. Aaron Ban to the Statehouse to join the Senate in prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Thank you, Rev. Ban, for traveling through snow and ice to be with us.

I love bringing pieces of our district to the Statehouse and sharing those moments with my colleagues.

I had the opportunity to speak with WISH-TV about the potential move of the Bears.

I emphasized that if the Bears were to come to IN, it must not overburden Hoosier taxpayers. We are in a great position to attract the Bears or any professional team without giving away the farm.
