Yesterday, Discmaster added 122 new CD-ROMs. The day before, 110. The day before that, 21. And 134 the day before that. If you'not checking up on it, you're missing out on hundreds of gigs of derived data being added.

The newly emerged discmaster archive search tool came bearing gifts. Bsky user rabidrodent dug up crisp new screens from the Mario VB demo that Nintendo dispreferred over the 3D appeal of its minigame concept, which later became Mario Clash. What made this cancelled game so unique? 🧵

⬆️Perhaps the best part of this directory is the screenshots for "Mario Smash", the cancelled Mario game for Virtual Boy.

These are VERY high quality and high resolution. The pixels are clean enough, someone could accurately recreate them all in pixel art with some patience.

So far the oldest thing of mine is Chaos Calc 2, my fractal explorer, this version from May 1993 when I was 16 years young. 🤓

In 2022, I introduced the project DISCMASTER, which is a unique project to make the internals of tens of thousands of 1990s-2000s CD-ROMs findable in a semantic search.

Today, I'm announcing the team has now made DISCMASTER 2, a ground-up rewrite with so much improvement.
