Indeed not. It is to improve visibility. It is a painted version of the boards you see here.
I think the box was switched out - all the others were set to clear as well. It was in a better state a year ago when it wasn’t obviously scraping against the sighting board.

Distances on UK railways are still in miles and chains (except on High Speed 1, where they are in km), so yards makes sense for a tunnel.

From what I can see from my photos, it didn’t actually rain at all that day! But it was very, very grey.

Yes, France is famously centralised, but I think the UK takes it to another level. Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham and Manchester have new (post-1990) tram systems, but all were funded by central government.

イギリスでは、そういう「グリーンウェイ」の転換に加えて、廃線を保存鉄道に転換する場合も多い。路面電車はほとんど1950年代に廃止されて、今は珍しい。イギリス北部のいくつかの都市はまだ路面電車があるけど、首都内は南ロンドンのCroydonの1990年代に新しく建造されたTramlinkしかない。
