Seedling Games (Alcyone)
@seedlinggames.bsky.social
I make tabletop RPG stuff. The most popular thing I've made has been Procedures to Discover the Path Ahead.

I'm only doing this cause I'm a big fan of 4E

key to the spirit of the thing while avoiding copyright infrignement is naming everything in terms of two words smushed awkwardly together

For this skill challenge, just list what items and elements of your background apply at each stage, and you succeed if you have a sufficiently large number of them

The problem with writing a game shaped shitpost is inevitably you start actually taking it seriously and then start thinking maybe this is cool

also feel like things fragmenting into discord has ironically broken apart some of the old barriers cause it's harder for big names to impose their baggage on the scene. I see a lot more crossover between different play styles than I used to

feel like Discord is the main thing now
things feel fragmented but also I feel like there's a lot less pressure to compare yourselves to other people as a result. It's probably bad for people trying to make a living but it feels like a good time to be an amateur. Also a renewed energy overall.

based on my own RSS reader (inoreader) seems like I can safely backfill things

Had the terrible idea of instead of playtesting it correctly, run it O/U style where all the important faction NPCs are players as well and the game advances by one "dungeon turn" a day (would probably need to like put all the channels on slow mode)
November 26, 2025 at 7:44 PM
biggest barrier is I have to playtest it again
as soon as I have to like run a game in a way that seems like work my chances of actually following through any time soon goes down a lot

However most of that work was done by other people and so I'm not sure I'm the best person to write it up. But a lot of the people who did the most interesting stuff in terms of game design in the union do not seem to have blogs, they are not active online anywhere, and don't seem to want to be

People like invented whole new RP approaches that were made to work for people who could not spend hours developing their in-game relationships with people, that invited people who were less involved to get more involved even if they didn't feel they knew what was going on.

one thing about the union in over/under is that for various reasons it became the faction for people who could not make as large a time commitment to the game as many people in other factions did. So a lot of the RP ended up looking quite different.

Solo journaling with an audience, with prompts provided by other people, happening in parallel with and in response to other people's RP, but without ever requiring a synchronous response on either end. For the first half of the game, my schedule didn't really allow for live RP
November 26, 2025 at 8:45 AM
writing up the latter got me thinking that a lot of the RP I did in over/under probably had more in common with solo journaling than anything, probably because that's the background I brought to the game (rather than LARP or forum RP or MUDs).

Haxen has sci fi and unique puzzle-ish gameplay and very light journaling elements (but maybe too OSR adjacent?)

One breath left is definitely sci fi and definitely unique mechanically (but maybe a bit too dungeon crawl adjacent? Well space ship crawl)

I literally bumbled around my territory chasing vague rumours having no idea what was going on until the game ended early
