Hi BlueSky fellows! I’m a cybercrime prof in NL doing research on attacker economics.

We spot emerging cyber-threats and do something about it.

We do pretty cool stuff, see lallodi.github.io for some details!

Shouldn’t we rebrand LLMs as Large Language Manipulators? Not a joke.

Air power experts: I am interested in writing something that looks at sixth-gen combat air programmes around the world. In terms of design, technology, size, cost, range, capability trade-offs: what are they converging on, how are they diverging, & why? Thoughts & reading recommendations welcome.

Currently experimenting with JITR (Just-in-Time Recovery). It's when symptoms from a heavily debilitating illness fade away leaving room to health euphoria, right before an important deadline with multiple submissions. 🧪

Striking how this column is largely whining and absolutely ZERO explanation of how the tariffs are in any way related to or risolutive of the cause of the whining. For an FT column, I’d say know your audience a bit better. On the other hand ofc it can also be there’s nothing to say about that.
"The US cumulative trade deficits in goods from 1976 to 2024 have transferred over $20tn of American wealth into foreign hands."

Mate, that's just not how this works. www.ft.com/content/f313...
Donald Trump’s tariffs will fix a broken system
Next we must tackle the barrage of non-tariff weapons used to strangle American exports

Looking forward to Apple reconsidering that planned obsolescence thing they used to do.
Americans will soon be holding on to their iPhones for as long as Cubans keep their old cars. Gonna be fun to watch.

I actually think this might be the only meaningful global response. Trump’s idiocy is rooted in a belief that everybody needs the US, but the US don’t need anybody. It can be proven false real quick.
Let's just get everyone put 10000% on everything
Fuck them over completely

I made an AI notice that the second reference it provided in its answer is irrelevant to its argument. The AI said sorry for the oversight, and corrected its answer by renumbering reference number two to number one.

I theorize there’s a positive correlation between aging and excitement to get back home.

Surely somebody’s already proven it, but apparently only now I am aging sufficiently to notice.

1st Law of the US admin: Adding or removing appointees from the cabinet alters the internal absurdity of the system.

Corollary: Unfortunately, total absurdity is NOT conserved.

2nd Law: Absurdity never decreases.

3rd Law: Absurdity becomes constant as total cabinet intellect approaches zero.

Welcome to Bluesky, President Obama 🫡
Figured I’d hop on here today for the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act.

With everything going on right now, it’s easy to feel like regular folks can’t make a difference – but the ACA is a reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress.

Truly remarkable to see EU research institutions stating that the US administration is now curbing scientific research, and discuss what opportunities and risks lay ahead.

I repeat: the US is *CURBING* scientific research.

We are living in an alien world.

Looking forward to European ministries of internal affairs to release a “travel only if necessary” travel advisory for the US.
Seriously unsure whether my Dutch wife should accompany me to the US this summer to visit my family. She applied for a green card in the 90s but stopped the process 20 years ago. Who knows whether there is some weird remnant of that in a system that could get her flagged for detention?

Is this an opportunity for Canada and the EU to further strengthen their economic relations in spite of US silliness?
Why tariff wars are stupid, part whatever. The initial tariffs from America will harm both countries. The retaliation, intended to put a stop to it, will also do harm, and poor Canada, just trying to stick up for itself is tying itself in these knots.
Canadians, part of the proposed tariffs for April is a 25% tariffs on books. This would be devastating for Canada's book industry, with very little impact on the US.

You can voice your opposition to this particular tariff using the form below:

A first step. How it will happen is to see. SURF’s got a ball to pick up and I’ve heard they are already looking into it. But change requires talent (to build it), and willing stakeholders (to showcase it); a concrete program must focus on bringing these together. Start with Uni’s.
