Not since 2013.

It’s a work in progress, but Churchill hasn’t lost a bear since 2013.

That’s why we have the Polar Bear Alert. Their job is to keep both bears and people safe.

Very much not :)

Just a lucky spotting by our driver. The cubs are 11 months old and about the size we'd expect for that age.

We have lots of Americans who visit Monica. You’re always welcome. I’m in Churchill right now. Looking forward to getting out on the tundra tomorrow.

Awesome! It looks like she’s having a fantastic time.

I'm stuck next to the Winnipeg airport, but we catch a glimpse now and then through the light pollution.

We're back up to Churchill tomorrow, so I'll have polar bears to console me ;)

I have, but it would have been nice to be home for this.

Oh sure, just because I'm suck at the airport with lots of lights :)

I’m in southern Manitoba on Lake Winnipeg.

This was a few weeks ago. You might not have caught this one. It was quite a long way from the live cams.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

This is pretty normal for this time of year. They haven’t eaten for over 100 days. They fast until the ice freezes up and they can go hunt seals. These two actually look pretty good for this time of year.

Good to know.

They did eventually start dancing, but the colours weren’t as bright and don’t show up as well on video.
November 12, 2025 at 3:33 PM
Video can be hard. It's not as bright to the naked eye and unless it's moving, there's not much to see. It was mostly curtains last night. Not as much dancing.
November 12, 2025 at 3:26 PM
Not always. They are most often green. This was an unusual show.

Nice!

There was a solar storm. Auroras are caused by plasma from the sun exciting oxygen ions in the atmosphere well above where our weather happens.
