It had not been very long since the Time Lord had regenerated, and she had noticed that he not only looked like the comedian Lenny Henry, but he stole most of his jokes from him too. ‘Oh well,’ she thought as they headed back into the Tardis, ‘At least he’s not like that bloke from The Secret Policeman’s Ball we watched on Channel 4 a while back who kept saying Thrillseekers or something. Or the other one with the ferrets and the nails up his nose. Or the one who does Blackadder. Or the one-‘ “Peri!” said the Doctor suddenly, as she realised she’d been talking under her breath all along. “Shut up!”

A very convincing robot blowing a fuse or two in a dramatic scene from the cinematic disco SF masterpiece that is The Shape of Things To Come (1979), large, bulky, with a shiny black domed and crested head, rounded pincered arms protruding from his panelled grey and black hexagonal body, Michelin man style short stumpy legs and flat black feet. The robot is as tall as the attractive and white-clad blonde lady slightly stooped with her eyes closed and her mouth open in a somewhat startled expression to the left of *him,* while a similarly white-clad bloke with a beard stands at a console to the right and looks on. Another similar robot is in the background, possibly deactivated and disregarded like junk in a scene of pathos anticipating Spielberg’s AI. A bank of computers can be seen in the background behind the bloke and a curved shield-like thing on an apparatus stand forms the Casablanca-blinds-behind-Bogart-and-Bacall-style backdrop to the lady, subtly indicating her emotional connection to the robot and her work come what may in this topsy-turvy hill of beans of a universe. Ridley Scott must have seen this as he finished the final edits on Alien and thought “The game’s up.”

"Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.

The Skarasen 2025 and friends Mike Tucker, Justin Johnson and Dick Fiddy recreate Parky and the Emu in NFT1 at the BFI’s recent Doctor Who: Terror of the Zygons + Q&A event. The 1975 Skarasen looks on bewildered on the table. The screen backdrop shows the Fourth Doctor Who in his TV Scottish garb in the story, who was breaking free of his exile to Earth in the 20th Century and sent apologies that couldn’t get tickets.
