The empty "cartridge" it came with was not, it was a spacer to keep the filled cartridge apart from the pen. Slightly more mess than anticipated, but that is why I keep a pile of cheap microfiber towels around.

The cap actually screws on to the body instead of just posting to give it some balance. It's an eyedropper filler, so huge ink capacity.
A little smaller still than I would like, but also a pen I have with me is better to write with than one at home.
