Where I live you cannot get academic books through non-university libraries. They are also more expensive than the money I have for groceries for a week.

Should my access to knowledge be limited because of my financial situation?

Also, librarians are the Living Avatars of the Gods of Finding New Authors. “Hey, I love Author X; do you know any other authors like that?” is a question librarians tend to be very, very good at.

When you are at the vet, always ask questions.

What do you hope to learn from that diagnostic test?
What treatment(s) do you recommend?
Is there a procedure that is less invasive?
Can we start with one test, i.e. X-ray, then decide if you should draw blood?

Sometimes 1 test will reveal the issue.
