Simon's mistrusting of strangers so not grand on eye contact with, say, the bookshop punters. He's closer to normal on eye contact with his inner circle, but still a smidge off. Ofc he can gaze into LI's eyes without end.

(My characters are basic-ass Euro or Latinx humans in a contemporary fic, so nothing unusual about their eyes...except when being looked into by their LI, as with every human irl. Eye of the beholder!).

Yet many of his earlier movies do possess that cultural it factor, so it's not a generic Cameron thing at all. It seems pretty Avatar-specific. 🤷♂️

Yup. Of course, I’ve met my share of “transactional” fellow writers who will only be friends with people with more “status” than them, then freeze out those of “lesser status” as they achieve more and set their sight on larger targets, but they really are the exception.
