CGI aside, BADLANDS makes the strongest case ever to retire the Xenomorphs and focus on the Yautja. Our canon for them, though half-assed in its assembly, is streets ahead in creative possibilities.
Xenomorphs can only exist in opposition to lifeforms, usually humans. The Yautja have a culture.

Best part was just before I left, she made a family sit in one of the small booths next to me

...But the need to inflate that number by 2? Purely an act of ego-massaging, and one we've seen on a national stage for the past 10 years. DIG! XX sure is something. /end

It's a lie, and a ludicrous one: in 1996, BJM released THREE full-length albums, at least two of which are now acknowledged as classics. It's ludicrous because releasing 3 solid albums in a YEAR, not to mention good ones, is already a feat in and of itself... 11/n

The moment that sticks out to me the most is at the BJM's showcase concert, which ends up in a fist-fight on stage. Before the punch-up, Newcombe sneers at the audience that he's released 6 albums that year, intimating that this concert, and this audience, are beneath an artist like him... 10/n

Since DIG! premiered, and certainly after the election of Trump and the rise of Silicone Valley, a crescendoing murmur has risen discussing the idea of the "asshole genius" and the prices paid by the people around them who actually facilitate the genius. DIG! is once again topical... 9/n

DIG! XX is now laser focused 2 sides of a single coin: Newcombe, mentally unstable and lauded as an artistic visionary but deeply resentful of the Dandys' success; Taylor, the "well-adjusted" rock star with modest success but not the junkie street cred or the aura of genius surrounding Newcombe. 8/n

Indeed, the new version not only underscores this, but also gives us a sharper focus: DIG! is not just about one psychopath trying to win big in popular music, but two. The Dandys' Taylor gets his own additional context with megalomaniacal tantrums and tirades... 7/n

...It absolutely does not change the view of the BJM or Newcombe that I walked away from when I saw it 20 years ago. On the contrary, the additional footage and context gives even more credence to Newcombe's portrayal as a self-destructive psychopath who also happens to be a musical genius. 6/n

...Now, Timoner has added new narration by the BJM's tambourine player and mascot of the film, Joel Gion, offering his own counterpoints and commentary. In all fairness, some of the criticism of the original DIG! was legitimate, and while this remedies some the film's original sins... 5/n

Director Ondi Timoner has seemingly taken the anniversary as an opportunity to not just remaster DIG! but also rework it in response to those criticisms by adding 40 more minutes of footage. In the original version, the film was solely narrated by Dandys founder Courtney Taylor../ 4/n

At the time, the party line from folks who appeared in the movie was that DIG! was unfair to Anton Newcombe, volatile leader of the BJM, who I remember calling it "at best a series of punch-ups and mishaps taken out of context, and at worst bold faced lies and misrepresentation of fact". Okay. 3/n

I wasnt hip enough to be into the Brian Jonestown Massacre when it came out, and the documentary absolutely sold me on their 90s output. The drama of the documentary was a lovely bit of icing on the cake; i was in my mid-20s, and I wasnt above the petty squabbling of music scenes & record nerds. 2/n

Well, they did bug them at a table, but yeah, there's 3 other people missing from the GET BACK convo... And I would argue, that version makes even less sense than this unedited one
