Watched Life of Chuck and enjoyed it, although it's a tad didactic. Certain scenes from Chuck's memories are life-affirming, but I can't stop thinking about exes Marty and Felicia under the stars, wondering what might be even if it's the end of the universe, a beautiful moment between ... 1/2

We watched The Princess Bride last night and forgot what's going on in the U.S. for a bit and felt that love could truly save the world—maybe, hopefully —and cried when Grandpa told his grandson 'as you wish' when he asked to be read the story again the next day. Hopefully love will save us. ❤️

I don't know Maria or this phone number. But to know for certain, if they don't get my Jerky Boys reference, then I definitely don't know them for sure.

Comic book mail: The Amazing Spider-Man #140. Jan 1975. Writer: Gerry Conway. Penciler: Ross Andru. "...And One Will Fall" The Jackal attaches a bracelet to Spider-Man to discover his true identity and Spidey battles the Grizzly at a local gym. A much better read than issue #138 for sure!

Comic book mail: The Amazing Spider-Man #138. Nov 1974. Writer: Gerry Conway. Penciler: Ross Andru. "Madness Means...The Mindworm!" The Mindword feeds off the emotions of others; not the best villain. Typically Conway is an excellent writer but this story is lacking. 1/2

My brief review: Song Sung Blue is a fantastic musical biopic. Although many of the plot points are well-worn territory, the movie plays these familiar chords effectively. Jackman and Hudson are electric and the family dynamics ring true. Great feel-good flick!

Comic book mail: The Amazing Spider-Man #204. May 1980. Writer: Marv Wolfman. Penciler: Keith Pollard. "The Black Cat Always Lands On Her Feet!" Spider-Man is surprised to learn that the Black Cat is alive. And Peter Parker is clearly a sucker for a beautiful woman in a cat suit.

Rob Reiner's films were the best. They inspired me as a young writer to be curious about friendships and difficult relationships. I've shared his films with my children who also loved them. RIP Rob Reiner. Your genius will live on.

Comic book mail: The Amazing Spider-Man #102. Nov 1971. Writer: Roy Thomas. Penciler: Gil Kane. "Vampire at Large!" A six-armed Spider-Man is caught between the Lizard and Morbius, whose backstory is revealed. This copy has a faded cover, but otherwise it's in beautiful shape!

I've been reading about the resurgence of CDs, so I decided to dig out my CDs from the 80s, 90s, and early 00s, the ones I bought in record stores. I'm listening to them on my Bose CD player! There's something special about listening to music without compression.
