I feel ya. If you really want brain melts: Try writing a 1-shot LARP sometime. Have a plot (and write enough clues) that is resolvable in roughly 3 hours. Write pre-made characters with enough depth and motivation for players to hopefully follow the plot, while keeping flexibility for creativity.

The hilarious thing is that “Murder, She Wrote” takes place in a fictional Maine town, and as someone who lives literally ~20 miles from Stephen King … it’s actually not that hard to imagine. Although we’d probably assume it was for a book (as he includes absurd amounts of real things in his books)
