That reminded me of Hiraiwa Yoshiyasu’s 1885 proposal to write Japanese using the components of the Ahiru script.

@ricciinstitutelib.bsky.social A few more photos from our scroll, Shizi chongxun 十字寵勳. We have since found out that a similar scroll was printed at the T'ou-sè-wè 土家灣 orphanage in Shanghai in 1929. This reproduction has not allowed us to determine with certainty that they are identical.

My first exposure to these aviform 🐦 Armenian letters was through this splendid plate in Andreas Müller's Alphabeta ac notae (published in 1703, but with a lot of material that probably dates from the 1680s). 🤓

He keeps doing it. Every time somebody gets beheaded in this text, the word "head" is replaced with a little hand-drawn emoticon. And considering how many people get beheaded in this story, that's a lot of lil face drawings.
