Taffy and Del, both from Zimbabwe, hadn't seen each other since they were kids. Until a chance and completely unexpected encounter at work, over 5,000 miles away at a Teesside care home. Really enjoyed working on this story -> www.itv.com/watch/news/c...

This took me a minute to figure out this morning. GDP grew 0.1% from July to September, but in the month of September alone it fell 0.1%. A confusing set of headlines in the @theguardian.com’s business newsletter today.

As a #copywriter, this made my skin crawl.

Tapping my computer keyboard with renewed vigour this morning after falling down a Danny Carey sized drumming rabbit hole on YouTube last night. I can't play the drums like Danny (or at all), but I can thrash a keyboard with the best of them. *This did not sound cooler in my head*

Great issue of unLTD magazine this month. Essential reading for the Sheffield business community. #Sheffield

Nine days ago I was a tourist in Paris, eating crepes, climbing the Eiffel, and visiting Napoleon at Les Invalides. I’ve been to #france dozens of times over the last 20 years, mostly climbing in Fontainebleau forest, so it was nice to do something different.

It's always nice when a reporter calls you back after an interview with your client just to say thanks for setting it up. Never fails to put a smile on my face. Lovely team over at BBC Radio Sheffield.

What a glorious weekend of sunshine! ☀️ Spotted this Small Tortoiseshell enjoying the lavender in my garden yesterday and thought it apt to share here (Bluesky logo). Hope everyone had the chance to relax and unwind. #butterflies #gardening #UKwildlife

“There’s still time to help someone hold on to who they are.”

An effective, poignant piece of direct mail I received from Sheffield Hospitals Charity last week. A great example of powerful storytelling in just 50 words.

That’s not an email I ever expected to receive from @microsoft.com : “The price for Microsoft 365 Business Standard will decrease soon” - but it’s a welcome one!

I’ve discovered my new favourite tea dunker. And it’s French! Incroyable!

If you’re in the business of telling stories, “The Science of Storytelling” by Will Storr is a fascinating read. Valuable, psychological lessons and insights for any storytelling medium, whether books, scripts, news stories, podcasts, TV shows, and anything else you can think of.

Lots of water infrastructure upgrades happening right now as AMP8 kicks in. Great to see Yorkshire Water installing several of my client's valves and fittings just up the road.

The 100th anniversary of the chocolate digestive - a UK family favourite. Might get a few headlines. However... tell everyone they've been eating them wrong for 100 years and you get all the headlines. #PR

The view from The Roaches Upper Tier never gets old. Great day for a climb yesterday, if a bit warm. #staffordshire

"Waterproofness" - I hate to be critical of others' work but I found this jarring and wondered if it's just me? Not a word I would associate with a luxury brand like Rolex. #copywriting

This time last week we were exploring the Coliseum in the glorious sunshine. Thankfully the sunshine followed us home.

Here's a screenshot of the body copy. There are a few tweaks I would make (I can see an oft-used and redundant "that" in the first paragraph, for example) but largely I think it does a great job. 🧵2/3

This week I’ve been taking a break, travelling around Italy, seeing the sights, drinking small coffees and large red wines, eating copious amounts of pasta, and generally having a wonderful time. Back to our usual broadcast next week.

In other words, if you're relying on AI to entirely produce or provide the lion's share of your content strategy, you're setting yourself up to fail. Or, as a brand agency founder I've worked with in the past put it on another social media platform...

Apple choosing brevity for their post purchase survey, possibly recognising consumers’ inboxes are flooded with review requests from all kinds of businesses. If brevity is the preference, I’d cut another three words - “…getting your order” - and make it briefer still. #copywriting
