believe it or not, most of us take our oath seriously, and we won't risk our law licenses for some short-term obedience to the whims of sociopaths

I also do think that political science commentators in the public eye should be trying to make the distinction between euro state centric totalitarianism and whatever fever dream Vought is marinating in.

Because they ARE very different. And you need to know what you're dealing with to deal with it

This is one of those moments where I realize I'm like Tom Nichols and I have to go stare in the mirror to stave off the existential crisis.

But you get lots of likes if you call it fascism so w/e I guess.

And yeah, it actually does matter. Because resistance against an encroaching administrative state and resistance against whatever the fuck that Trumpism is are two very very different things.

I think it's a misunderstanding of where we are. There is far too much focus on European and Asian authoritarian structures that require massive, expanded state apparatuses.

We are in some dumb form of Peronism and small state-ism combined with not actually knowing who to help.
I sometimes wonder why people ignore that requirement (personally I think it's because they like Trump and want hum to win).

Oh he's a mad little orange boy rn.
"Quiet! Quiet, Piggy."

Actual authoritarianism requires expansions of the administrative state I cry, once again ignored.
I mean yeah. But also you need lots of lawyers to do what DOJ needs to do and firing all of them without replacement means you can't do anything.
Absolutely no way to read this and not conclude that the Department of Justice has been deeply corrupted. And this is from a time when career lawyers were in place, pushing back against illegality. With firings and resignations, the politicization will just get worse.

Man he does NOT have the juice anymore
Trump on if he'll sign an Epstein files release bill: "We have nothing to do with Epstein. The Democrats do. All of his friends were Democrats. You look at this Reid Hoffman, Larry Summers, Clinton... all I want is I want for people to recognize the great job I've done on pricing, on affordability."

I would simply add to this point that the redistricting done by republicans is based entirely on '24 numbers and based on what just happened, that's a really, really dangerous idea that could get them into dummymander territory.

It's why they've stalled out everywhere.
4: Redistricting.

When Trump pressured Texas to gerrymander Dems out, with more states to follow, it looked like a catastrophic attack on American democracy.

That was what Trump wanted that outcome, but House Dems and state leaders are fighting this to a draw (pending SCOTUS) to foil his aims.
November 17, 2025 at 4:24 PM
like i don't want to put too fine a point on this, but Trump looks -incredibly- lame ducky right now. He's disinherting members of the party, he can't stop votes in the house, his massive redistricting push is stalling out and he's yelling at random state senators.

One of the things about the 2020 census is that it's an amazing example of people dooming about something ("He's going to rig the census!!") but not understanding what that means and what the affect is. DJT is a master of doing shit without understanding the consequences, as we see all the time.
November 17, 2025 at 4:15 PM
The census was rigged by him lmao

it just turns out it hurts republicans.
"This all began with the Rigged Census" claims the guy who was president during the 2020 census

Remember, the greatest posting combat honor you can achieve is getting someone who's yelling at you in your mentions to block you instead.
November 17, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Ah yes, I don't care what you think while I continue to post in your mentions like a lunatic.
November 17, 2025 at 3:46 PM
You sound like a very well adjusted and sane person.
November 17, 2025 at 3:45 PM
I gotta be honest, I don't quite get what the point of some of the bots are. Maybe someone in eastern europe can explain their thinking tia.
November 17, 2025 at 3:42 PM
*searching Olivia Nuzzi and then going into anyone who mentions it to yell at them that no one knows who it is, because I am a smart and clever person, or, more likely a weird bot.*
November 17, 2025 at 3:41 PM
I would assume promises from the senate that they'll kill it.
November 17, 2025 at 3:32 PM
I read this as a capitulation, tbh.
November 17, 2025 at 3:30 PM
We gave the government over to a bunch of trolls, 4chan shitlords, and out and out blood and soil racists.

What do you mean we have no ability to talk about people's groceries going up??
November 17, 2025 at 3:29 PM
It's really amusing how much the GOP has realized it has to pivot to affordability and how it's not getting better while at the same time not having a good answer for the fact that they're causing a bunch of it.

It's like the ugliest of both political worlds.
November 17, 2025 at 3:25 PM
I refuse to care about the Olivia Nuzzi book, I refuse to engage with it, stop it!
November 17, 2025 at 3:18 PM
it strikes me as slightly concerning how much dril shitposts have entered the common lexicon lmao
