Also, I have taught English learners, so I always include a check on assignments. I wouldn’t just say “read this.” I have an assignment to ensure they understand. I am super explicit about expectations. Maybe I’m simplifying things; I think I’m being explicit about expectations.

My grandma did this. We called them pie crust cookies and they were fantastic.
