This is great. Very few people want to go to jail, get disbarred or die for this regime. Make them fight you. They will cave.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

a load-bearing component of “the magic of Christmas” is the invisible domestic labor of moms

you are now realizing how much she was doing for you and instead of just thanking her you’ve decided it’s about the decline of civilization
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.

Anyone recognize this dog? My neighbor is watching him until his owners are found. Pit mix, male, pretty sizable, good at greeting and friendly behaviors and VERY SWEET. No tag, no chip. Surely his family yearns for him. Found in the Standish-Ericson neighborhood in Minneapolis, near Lake Hiawatha.

This thread is interesting, but it doesn’t match my experience as a community college instructor. I have some students who don’t do the work, and they fail. (I have a generous policy for late work, and many students who got off on the wrong foot end up doing okay. Not all do.)
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Today, Starbucks workers in 40+ cities began a historic ULP strike. But we’re NOT finished.

We're prepared to escalate with more stores striking if we don’t see substantial progress toward finalizing contracts that address pay, hours/staffing, and the resolution of 100s of ULPs.

Fun date idea for this time of year: you and your date each bring money ($20 or so) to a toy store. Pick out toys you like and donate them to a charity. Then go have a beverage or something.

I think the thing that really made the Joyce Carol Oates tweet sting so bad is that it's a nerd power fantasy, this devasting, eloquent putdown that hurts worse than anything a bully can physically do to you, and that's the kind of thing he thinks he's supposed to be doing
