Art Institute membership is by far the best way to spend money if you live in Chicago. And coming here for the members' hour is the one thing I ought to do far more. Even if the Monets make me homesick

Been thinking about Japanese-Mexican fusion cuisine. Birria ramen is fine, but it really doesn't feel like a great fusion dish. Specifically, it's not great ramen—Korean tacos can have great Korean meats and be great tacos.

My favorite (?) thing about crash rate stats by age is that it goes up a lot between when a teen has a permit vs a license.

The policy recommendation, of course, is that you should not give out driver's licenses.

What's only in the caption: His plane crashed into Lake Monona in Madison—the memorial plaque in the photo is at Monona Terrace.

Also, the openers for the scheduled Madison show, the Grim Reapers, included future members of Cheap Trick.

Proxi is closing at the end of the year. Only made it there once but it was very good. Better than most of the other Asian fusion places in town.

Feminists are supposed to be the man-haters, but here's a guy who equates masculinity with murder.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

1. What fancy meat dish do I want to make just because?
2. Panettone or stollen from PQB?

There are a lot of really horrific examples of “it can always get worse” in world history but I find Sepp Blatter to Gianni Infantino hits just the right note of bleak whimsy.

Something that happens a few times a year for me (mostly on the Economist) is I’m reading about China, see a Chinese word written out in pinyin and I have no clue what the word is, then I look up the characters and everything makes 50% more sense.
It's with mixed emotions that I observe "kei" acquire a very specific meaning in English. It just means "light" (as opposed to heavy).

Chinese-character knowers can recognize 軽/輕/轻.
