As the election is over, this is the final post I will send from this account. I invite you to join my council email list so that we can continue to keep in touch. I write a newsletter before each council meeting to review the upcoming agenda, share my thoughts, & ask for your feedback.

I am thrilled to see my colleagues, Hugo Garcia, Sam Mendez and Rocco DeVito receiving overwhelming support in their races. I look forward to working alongside these progressive champions next year to focus on solutions for Burien that make us all stronger, safer, and happier.

I hope he and I can work together on issues we agreed upon, like bringing services to all areas of the city and making our community safer for us all.
November 17, 2025 at 12:32 AM
I would like to thank my opponent in the race, Gabriel Fernandez, for running an issue focused campaign and for his commitment to Burien. I have huge respect for his willingness to step up to represent our community and hope that he will remain engaged.

People voted for compassionate solutions to the issues we all face, and for candidates who will fight for working families and people who have been left behind.
November 17, 2025 at 12:32 AM
Not only in Burien, but regionally and nationally, it seems that people have voted overwhelmingly for candidates who promised to work with and for the people to bring much needed relief and protections to those who are most vulnerable or just holding on.

I am so grateful to every one of you for your support and would like to thank my team for keeping me going over the months. Your belief in my ability to turn our shared values into action is inspiring and I look forward to doing the work along with you.

Whatever the final outcome, I also want to thank my opponent, Gabriel Fernandez, for running an issue-focused campaign. His choice to run for office is a commendable example for Burien's youth, one I hope more will follow in the years to come.

I am so grateful to everyone who has helped our campaign make it here! On this final day, can you talk to your neighbors, call or text a friend (or a few!) & make sure they've got what they need to get their ballot in? Remind them to use a ballot box, too! We want everyone's vote counted!

Thank you, JPT for capturing how powerfully humbling it is to serve the public, and the work I hope to continue uplifting, if the voters decide I should have another term. We have so much skill and talent in our community! sarahforburien.com

JPT didn't know this when creating the piece, but I have always thought of our progressive candidates in a Wizard of Oz theme, myself as Dorothy. To me, this postcard flips that, and has me as the one character who is not in full color because the focus is on how my work came from community need.
November 1, 2025 at 4:10 AM
So, through Daniel, I contacted JPT to ask for a partnership.
I commissioned JPT (and Elisabeth who designed my mailer!) and they created a people's mailer featuring a few of the times when I succeeded by lifting other people's work the tiny extra bit it needed. I'm so excited we could do this.

A series in our local Blog, called “B-Toons” that ran in 2024, stayed in my mind for the artist’s ability to capture the feeling of a story in pictures.

I was reminded of the campaign materials my friend Daniel Martin used in 2023 for his campaign.
I was struck by the uniqueness of Daniel’s materials, and inspired to seek out an artist who might capture what I’m all about and why I’m doing this.

I knew that very young or new voters are often not on voter lists yet, and so get missed when canvassing. I also knew that typical methods of reaching them would not work, and I knew I wanted to do something different.
