As expected, #EU leaders have postponed the decision on whether to use frozen Russian assets to support #Ukraine. But they agreed to financially support Ukraine via other means: bbc.com/news/article...

In my @goodauth.bsky.social piece below, I explain why seizing these assets is so challenging.

Politics is not like selling biscuits, where the task is to find out what people like & flog it to them.

It's a moral activity. It's about arguing for the things you believe in. It's about *shaping* the "median voter".

Farage has moved the centre-ground of politics. His opponents can move it back.

For the Guardian, @turnbulldugarte.com and I discuss our research that clearly shows one thing: Labour's anti-immigration strategy will only strengthen Reform and weaken its own electoral prospects. It won't win voters back but ultimately normalizes the far right

Our research makes it clear: by capitulating to the right, Labour is driving voters to Reform UK | Tarik Abou-Chadi and Stuart Turnbull-Dugarte
Mimicking Farage on immigration is senseless. Labour voters feel betrayed; anti-immigration voters see through the ruse, say academics Tarik Abou-Chadi and Stuart Turnbull-Dugarte

Is talking to Putin pointless? We have a new report out mapping the 2025 peace talks and highlighting how Ukraine has successfully utilised them to make progress on some of its own demands, especially in relation to captive held hostage by Russia /1 peacerep.org/publication/...
On the Peace Negotiations Between Russia and Ukraine: Prioritising the Human Dimension - PeaceRep
This report highlights the importance of raising the “human dimension” in the talks aimed at ending the Russo-Ukrainian War.

Extraordinary scenes in Kyiv and Lviv tonight as young protestors defy martial law to protest against govt destruction of the independence of the country’s anti corruption agencies. First mass protest in Kyiv since martial law. This still from Ukraine Pravda video on X.

Talk of 'boosting science' and 'widening participation' plans is all just pie in the sky BS given that Britain's university sector is dissolving into something that looks quite like chaos. Just look at all this. Whitehall and Westminster are not grounded in the real world. (1/2)

If Ukraine’s war economy is far more stable than that of Russia, why would it sign such a one sided minerals deal with the United States, with terms so obviously favouring the latter? My attempt at an answer is up on Guardian Opinion.

Ukraine’s strong economy is a great asset, but the US mineral deal shows how fragile it could be | Luke Cooper
Kyiv still relies heavily on foreign support for its war effort, and it has agreed to difficult terms to keep the US on side, says academic Luke Cooper
