New publishing opportunity!

The London Record Society are looking for someone to edit a volume based on the archive of the Working Ladies' Guild, which supported impoverished women in late nineteenth-century Britain.

Further information and contact details in the text below.
A call for editors for a new edited volume on the Working Ladies Guild. The volume is expected to focus on the late-Victorian period, with the case-histories of women based in London who approached the Guild for relief providing the bulk of the material. The records of the Guild’s Chelsea group, covering the period 1884 to 1897, will provide the core of the material to be transcribed and edited. Readers who are interested in potentially taking on this task should contact Dr Anne Summers (chair@friendsofthewomenslibrary.org.uk) or Prof Jerry White, Honorary General Editor (Modern Records) of the LRS (jerry.white@bbk.ac.uk) to discuss the project further.

I have been trying to trace the parents of an exploited girl from 1885. She was born in Dublin and I had some info thanks to @salvarmyarchive.bsky.social I was just about to give up, as the Irish records are so patchy, when I had a breakthrough! Both #researchthrills and #sadstory. #academicsky

William Morris & Walter Crane combined to publish 'A Death Song', a fundraiser in aid of the children of young clerk Alfred Linnell
Front cover of 'A Death Song' by William Morris, sold for the benefit of Alfred Linnell's children. Linnell died after being trampled by a police horse in Trafalgar Square on 20 November 1887. The cover included an engraving by Walter Crane. It shows a man on the ground, defended by the female figures of Justice and Liberty, as a baton-wielding police officer on a horse bears down on him. The item is from the archives of William Wess, document reference: MSS.240/W/4/2/6.
