Many reasons. Love of children. Religion. Personal choice. I have 2 kids and that's my lot, but others may think differently. A minority may think it will get them up the housing ladder. Then they are very rudely awoken by how long it takes.

The above doesn't factor the cost of children. Kids on average cost £223k from birth to 18 to raise. I don't think anyone is financially better off having more children, unless they're keeping a very tight budget! 20 quid a week will buy one pack of nappies and box of formula.

I deal with large families trying to get rehoused a lot. They are entitled to be rehoused if they're severely overcrowded, but the reality is with demand so high and supply so low they will be stuck as sardines on the waiting list for years. It's no life to want.

Child benefit is around 20 quid a week. Now I don't qualify for child benefit, but as a parent, I can tell you 20 quid a week doesn't go far. No one is going to have a child for an extra 20 quid a week. Also most people in poverty are in work. That's the legacy of Tory Britain.

He once said he'd leave the country if Brexit turned out to be a disaster. Sadly the bastard's still not doing his bit for net migration figures.
