All these people’s idea of AI come from popular sci-fi, not reality. Their idea of AI is HAL, while missing the ironic / satirical point of that film, which is that humans believing they are right or in control is the problem (as in Dr Strangelove).

Many on the left do the same thing. Everyone thinks men aren’t trying hard enough in one way or another, and while individuals might not be and you have a friend who you might rightly tell to get a grip, as a societal diagnosis this sucks.

These grifters grind my gears. They take some truths (like men are struggling to meet their traditional expectations in this economy), but then rather than viewing the problem as a combination of those expectations and the economy, reaffirm both.

For instance the right has veered towards outright sociopathy because it is essentially immersed in a lynch mob 24/7, in which attention and fame are secured by endorsing ever-more-psychopathic expressions of violence towards a (largely hallucinated) class of subhuman out-group enemies
