And I think that's when conflict arises. Patient thinks "doctor doesnt care", doctor thinks "I don't know, they need to ask someone else", neither is being open about their feelings, and thus friction. But doctors care and want to fix, that's our nature. What we do when we can't can be an issue. 2/2

But like, my very point is that's not true. There are definitely times doctors flail in uncertainty, and I think they fear if they show that uncertainty then patients won't trust them. In the worst cases, repeated presentations with mystery symptoms can make doctors essentially shut down. (1/2)

Do doctors ever think about money? Of course, we have families to care for. But it is not influencing treatment decisions, and (maybe surgery being the exception) treatment choice has zero influence on our take-home pay. Nor is pharma paying us! If anything, insurance ties our hands too. 😪
