that depends on your budget, what kind of paper you’re writing on, and if there’s a specific color you want to try. for your basic blue or black, parker quink and waterman are pretty good on cheap paper. instead of buying a bottle, you could get ink samples so you can try different kinds. 1/2

converters are good if you want to use bottled ink instead of cartridges. kaweco uses international short cartridges while pilot and lamy use proprietary ones. i believe the muji also uses international short cartridges

my go-to places tend to be jetpens and yoseka stationary but i've also had good experiences with goulet, goldspot, anderson pens, lemur ink, and endless pens.
